The reviews of this book generally regarded this as inferior to the Shardlake books by Sansom, but I really enjoyed it! The main character Bruno is very likeable and the first person narrative lets you experience his adventures personally. As I love Tudor history, this mystery appealed to the historian in me and the inclusion of real people from the period (Sidney and Walsingham) put the plot into context. The murders are described in grisly detail and I had no idea whodunit. I’m not sure I found the conclusion completely believable but it was still ok. I will definitely be reading the others in the series.
