My very own website!!! Yikes!

Are 3 kids ever easier than 1? The school run example

I was chatting to a mum of one the other day and she couldn’t understand how I get 3 children ready to go out in the morning as she struggles with her one.

No secret. Just a timetable and a routine. The kids know that if they want time to play before school then they have to get ready when I say.

There was the time one morning where I walked in expecting to find the older two dressed. But instead Anya was sat there naked wearing a Spiderman mask…

Zach is a nightmare to dress 🙁 Since he learnt to crawl he just doesn’t want to stay still. Matthew and Anya usually join in, in this video you hear them competing to be ready first.

You may not believe me but it is easier with 3. They have competitions to see who can get ready fastest. They nag each other to get on so there is extra playtime. They keeps tabs on the others so I can get stuff ready.

The school run also has competition: who can spot the most planes/flowers/Ford Galaxies? Who can get to the lamppost first? It keeps them interested and moving forward. Hurrah!

My experience is that it is definitely easier having more than 1 child as the children have more structure to their day. Even the weekends when we have no specific plans, we follow the same procedure to make sure we are all ready to face the day, whatever it may throw at us 🙂

  1. I’m still struggling to get my 3 out of the door in any kind of civilised manner and I’ve been doing the school run with all three for 6 years now – sounds like you are much more organised! #stayclassymama

  2. I agree with you 🙂 I remember having my first child and it being so much hard work. Then 2,3 and 4th child came along and it never felt like hard work!? I think you get used to it and it gets easier somehow!?

  3. I have four children and believe me, there’s no way my four are easier than one! With a 2, 3, 4 and 12 year old, theres only one who is able to get himself dressed each morning, and the rest is on me! I don’t have enough hands, I don’t have enough patience, or time, and we get to school late most days! Aggh! #stayclassymama

  4. I find it much easier when I only have 1 to get ready! I have two and when they are both here they just distract each other and I often go upstairs expecting them to be ready and they are running around playing hide and seek! My son is away with his school at the moment and my daughter just gets ready as there is nothing there to distract her. You do a great job with 3! #blogstravaganza

  5. So glad it works for you. I only have 2 and it’s a nightmare! No one ever wants to get dressed and instead of cheering each other on to get ready or having a competition they just follow each other running away and being little pains in the backside because they think they are funny!!!! Thank you for sharing with #StayClassyMama
