Mental Health Awareness Week 9th-15th May

Mental Health is a topic extremely close to my heart right now.
I am struggling.

Last week I started taking anti anxiety medicine as I can no longer cope with the symptoms of anxiety. Well actually that isn’t quite true. My children were upset and scared at my daily vomiting. It was starting to prevent me being the mum I wanted to be. So it was time to do something about it…
Medication isn’t the route I wanted to go down. I feel the stigma even though I don’t think twice about taking medicine for physical illnesses.
According to the NHS 1 in 4 adults and 1 in 10 children are affected by mental health problems in any year. Yet only 1 in 8 receive any treatment. There is shame, denial, embarrassment, fear, guilt. But it is an illness, something out of our control. We can take steps as individuals to prevent it but as a society we need to learn to accept mental health illness and make seeking help a positive action.
Please don’t suffer alone. If you feel overwhelmed, then please seek advice from your GP.

It is good you have sekddx help and I hope the medication as helped. I take medication and it makes a difference, so it isn’t cure but it helps give you some clear space to think more rationally x #dreamteam

  2. The data here is 1 in 8 people have developed a mental health issue since lockdown (as a result of lockdown) – that’s predominately anxiety and depression. So I think it’s understandable that your anxiety might have got heightened since all this COVID stuff began, esp given what happened with your neighbour. I keep discovering I am changed by it all – not necessarily anxiety but like in the emotional response I had to Patrick Stewart. Go easy on yourself. There’s no stigma in getting yourself in optimum condition.

  3. I’m so sorry to hear you’ve been feeling like this Laura – sending hugs! You’re brave and a strong women for seeking help when needed. I can absolutely see and sympathize with how hard it is to make that first step. But you’ve done it…. now to take things one step at a time lovely. #DreamTeam xxx
