My very own website!!! Yikes!

Sleep training success at last! (Tuesday 11th April)

Three weeks ago I decided to stop breastfeeding Zach to sleep twice a day so that he could sleep train as he had already done at night. See this post and this one if you’ve missed them!

It hasn’t been easy. UNDERSTATEMENT!

The first two weeks were pretty much a write off. Sometimes he ended up sleeping for about 30 minutes in the pushchair whilst on the school run. There were days when he didn’t sleep at all. Other times he would fall asleep in my arms, too exhausted to stay awake another second.

Snooze time #sleeptraining #sleeptrainingfail

I cannot describe how awful it was listening to him cry in his cot and how much I hated myself for putting him through it.

But this week it has worked. I am typing this and he is asleep in his cot upstairs and has been for the last half an hour after only 5 minutes of grumbling.

Genuine proof that he can sleep in his cot during the day #sleeptraining #sleeptrainingsuccess

Zach definitely takes after Anya and doesn’t sleep for longer than 30 minutes but he now goes down with very little fuss which is a relief 🙂

It had an awful effect on his night time sleep too 🙁 He had a major meltdown about being put in his cot at all and would wake several times in the night. Now thankfully, he has gone back to 2 quick 5 minute feeds, one at 10pm and the other at midnight. Then he is fast asleep until 6.30-7am 🙂

He is REALLY excited about our new lawn mower

He is now back to being the happy little boy that he was before. And that smile makes it all worthwhile…

  1. Oh gosh , i gave up on the whole sleep training thing after he started crawling as he was just not having any of it, i admit it worked for like 2 weeks and then just like that he stopped wanting to sleep on his own,… but thankfully now hes 11 months nearly he’s in a great routine and sleep through (most nights) he sleeps from half 7pm till 6am the following morning which im pretty pleased with xx #TriumphantTales

  2. Sleep training is harder on the parents than the children I think. They’ll never remember it but they make us feel guilty as hell for even contemplating it at the time. Glad to hear things are moving in the right direction!

So good to hear sleep is making a return in your house! We tried to let our daughter self soothe for over a year of her life, by trying so many different techniques. However she didn’t start sleeping through until I let her fall asleep on me and then I put her down in her cot. Now at 2 years old she gets herself to sleep, so we got there finally 🙂

  4. It’s so difficult, we’ve never mastered the napping (she’s down to one nap but still sleeps on me!) but we did do the sleep training at night thing when her sleep seemed to be getting worse and worse – after 3 days she’d mastered it and we’ve never looked back! #TriumphantTales

  5. Well done you, a massive congratulations and well done for sticking it out too. All that hard work has certainly paid off! How cute your little bubba in his last pic.

  6. omg, sounds difficult to train children to sleep…I think there is no baby who sleeps all night long, or at least I’ve never heard a mom saying that her baby sleeps peacefully haha x

  7. Sleep training is one of the hardest things to do as hearing them cry is horrendous. I remember it well with my first, and we only done it at night time sleeps. During the day he would fall asleep on me and I would then put him down, he grew out of that at about 18 months and would then sleep himself. Jessica we have always put t bed awake from about 4 months old so we haven’t had to go down the sleep training route. She falls asleep on me in the day and then I put her down. I did consider sleep training for the day but I enjoy the snuggle and it will be over so quickly so I savour it. But well done!! #ThatFridayLinky

  8. ahh congratulations on cracking it! Sleep training can be hard but when the rewards start coming, its totally worth it! I dont think we sleep trained per se, but from the get go we had a routine for bedtime that we used for naps throughout the day also (we couldnt do baths before bed as it made ben more awake strangely) and after a while Ben started dictating his own nap times and we just followed his path.
Thank you for sharing this with us at #TriumphantTales, I look forward to reading more of your progress!

  9. Oh it’s so hard listening to them cry but this is proof that as hard as it is it’s worth it – well done you! Thanks so much for linking up to #TriumphantTales – hope to see you again on Tuesday!
